"Another towering milestone" - Jay Shah congratulates Virat Kohli on becoming the fastest to hit 27,000 runs in international cricket
Team India's ace batter Virat Kohli completed 27,000 runs in international cricket on Monday, September 30. He achieved the feat during his 47-run knock on Day 4 of the Men in Blue's ongoing Kanpur Test against Bangladesh.
Kohli crossed the 27,000-run mark in 594 innings, breaking Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar's record, with the latter taking 623 innings to complete the milestone. BCCI secretary Jay Shah congratulated the right-handed batter on the stunning landmark.
The former India captain is the fourth batter to complete 27,000 international runs. The only three players ahead of him are Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Kumar Sangakkara (28,016) and Ricky Ponting (27,483).
Taking to the microblogging platform X, Shah mentioned that Kohli's passion and hunger continue to inspire the cricket world. He wrote:
"Another towering milestone in the illustrious career of Virat Kohli as he crosses 27,000 international runs! Your passion, consistency, and hunger to excel are inspiring to the cricketing world. Congratulations @imVkohli, the journey continues to inspire millions!"
It is worth mentioning that Jay Shah has been elected as the new ICC chairman. He will replace Greg Barclay as the chief of the apex council in December.

Day 2 and Day 3 of the ongoing Kanpur Test were called off due to rain and a wet outfield. With the play resuming on the fourth day, India came out all guns blazing in an attempt to produce a result.
Bangladesh lost their remaining seven wickets and were bowled out for 233. The Indian batters then employed a counter-attacking approach. Virat Kohli missed out on a well-deserved half-century, losing his wicket while trying to go for a big shot.
The star batter scored 47 runs off 35 balls with the help of four boundaries and one six. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were the top performers with the bat in the innings, scoring 72 and 68, respectively.
India declared with a lead of 52 runs. Bangladesh lost two wickets in the final session, finishing at 26/2.
