"Anushka has been right by my side through thick and thin" - Virat Kohli’s special praise for wife after scoring 100 in 1st BGT 2025 Test
Virat Kohli ended his Test century drought and finally reached the three-figure mark after a 16-innings-long break at Perth on Sunday (November 24). After scoring his 81st international hundred, Kohli was all praises for his wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, for being by his side through all the ups and downs.
On Day 3 of the opening Border Gavaskar Trophy Test, Kohli registered an unbeaten century in the second innings. Notably, Kohli also notched up a ton in the first Test match played at the same venue in 2018, only for the knock to go in vain as Australia handed India a disappointing defeat.
India declared their innings at 487/6 on Sunday, as soon as Kohli got to the feat. The 36-year-old spoke to the broadcasters at the end of India's innings, saying:
“Anushka has been right by my side through thick and thin. She knows everything that goes on behind the scenes. Knows what goes on in the head when you're not performing well.”
While Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is after lifting the 2024 World Cup with the Men in Blue, he continued to ply his trade in the longer formats of the game - ODIs and Tests. Speaking further about representing his country, he added:
“I'm not a guy who hangs around for the sake of it. I take pride in performing for the country.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli’s centuries help India set 534-run target
After being dismissed for just 150 runs in the first innings, Indian bowlers made merry of the pitch and dished out the hosts for an even lower total of 104 runs. With the pitch conditions changing on Day 2 of the first Test, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul showcased dominance to kick off the second innings.
While Rahul walked back scoring 77 runs, Jaiswal converted his half-century into a ton, thereby notching up his first century on Australian soil. Jaiswal looked to get a double ton but was unfortunately dismissed for 161(297).
Virat Kohli took charge next and got to his fifty quite slow. He quickly converted that and eventually ended his Test ton drought. He swept Marnus Labuschagne for a four to get to the three-digit score as India immediately declared their innings with 487 runs on board, and a lead of 533 runs.
