Tilak Varma and Anshul Kambhoj star in India's victory against Pakistan in Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024
India captain Tilak Varma won the toss and opted to bat first in the contest. Abhishek Sharma (35) and Prabhsimran Singh (36) gave a brisk start with blazing cameos and a 68-run opening stand.
Left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem dismissed Abhishek right after the powerplay to break the momentum of the innings. Bowlers then controlled the middle-overs phase and chipped away with regular wickets to dent India's progress.
Tilak Varma (44 off 35) played the anchor role for his side and helped them reach 183, with the help of a couple of cameos from middle and lower-order batters. Sufiyan Muqeem scalped two wickets for Men in Green.
In response, Mohammad Haris hit a six off the first ball but perished on the very next delivery. Yasir Khan (33), Qasim Akram (27), Arafat Minhas (41), Abdul Samad (25), and Abbas Afridi (18*) performed decently and took their side close to the target. However, they could not finish the job, eventually falling eight runs short of a victory.
Anshul Kambhoj received the 'Player of the Match' award for his brilliant three-wicket spell in the second innings.
India will next face the UAE, while the Men in Green will square off against Oman on Monday (October 21) at the same venue.
