Arshdeep Singh castles CSK captain with a dream delivery for just 5 in VHT 2024-25 quarterfinal [Watch]
Punjab left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh made the new ball talk to shatter Maharashtra skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's stumps in the very first over of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final on Saturday, January 11. The opening batter scored only five runs off five deliveries in the knockout fixture in Vadodara.
Arshdeep Singh bowled the first over after Punjab skipper Abhishek Sharma asked Maharashtra to bat. Gaikwad was beaten by a brilliant delivery midway through the over as he tried to play for the incoming ball. He then survived a close call after almost chopping the next delivery onto his stumps. However, the inside edge guided the ball to the boundary.
On the final ball of the over, the left-arm pacer outsmarted the batter with a delivery that went with the angle. Gaikwad once again anticipated an incoming delivery, leading him to play well inside the line. The ball comfortably evaded the outside edge to hit the top of the off stump to give Punjab the early breakthrough.

Arshdeep Singh struck in his next over as well to dismiss Siddhesh Veer for a five-ball duck to reduce Maharashtra to 8-2 after three overs. As of writing, the pacer finished his first spell, with the figures reading 5-1-21-2.
Maharashtra have stabilized their innings through Ankit Bawne and Arshin Kulkarni after the Punjab bowling spearhead's onslaught with the new ball.
Arshdeep Singh has dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad thrice in the IPL over the years
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, playing at the top of the order, has come across the left-arm pacer on several occasions. Arshdeep largely takes the new ball for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has gotten the better of Gaikwad in the past.
He has dismissed the opening batter thrice, including twice in the 2021 season. Even during one of their most recent IPL encounters at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 1, 2024, Arshdeep castled Gaikwad with a yorker.
