"Ashish Nehra I know, how is he coaching?" - David Warner's reaction after learning Ashish Nehra will coach GT
Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper David Warner has accepted that he was a bit baffled when he came to know that the Gujarat Titans (GT) had appointed Ashish Nehra as their coach.
Nehra and Warner have shared the dressing room together during their time at the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Warner shed light on just how hilarious the left-arm pacer was. He also spoke about another of his former SRH teammates in Yuvraj Singh, who is also known to be quite a jolly character.
On the show 'Breakfast with Champions', here's what David Warner had to say about his reaction to Ashish Nehra becoming a coach:
"They (Yuvraj and Nehra) are ripping blokes. I absolutely love being around them. Ashish just cracks jokes all the time. I am sitting here today and thinking, 'Ashish Nehra I know, how is he coaching?' He is just like a soccer coach going up and down the thing.
"This is innovation and this is how T20 coaching should be. I want to see him throw his hat. I want to see him get that head mic and go, 'Why is he playing that shot?!'"
We get energy off people coming at us: David Warner on himself and Virat Kohli
David Warner over the years has often engaged in a heated exchange with the opposition. He believes players like himself and Virat Kohli get the best out of themselves when there's a bit of sledging. He feels that gives them extra focus to do the best they can for the team.
On this, Warner stated:
"Myself and Virat, we get energy off people talking to us or coming at us. If you're coming at us, that's the fight and we are in. It's not about proving a point to anyone. You just get in and your feet start moving and you play your shots. Then you say, 'Thanks mate, you got me in.'"
David Warner's aggressive captaincy and body language played its part in the Sunrisers Hyderabad winning the IPL title in 2016.
