“At times we feel they are playing PS4” - When Yuzvendra Chahal made a hilarious observation about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s batting
Back in 2018, Yuzvendra Chahal used an interesting analogy to describe how Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli batted in tandem to beat West Indies in the ODI series opener at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. India and West Indies squared off in a five-match ODI series which the hosts won 3-1.
After being asked to bat first, West Indies posted a total of 322/8 thanks to a stellar ton from Shimron Hetmyer (106 off 78) and a half-century at the top by Kieran Powell (51 off 39). Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the star with the ball, recording figures of 3/41 in his 10 overs and being the only bowler to have an economy of six or below in that match.
Team India had a shaky start as they lost Shikhar Dhawan cheaply. With Virat Kohli (140) and Rohit Sharma (152*) in the middle, the crowd at Guwahati enjoyed a fine show of batsmanship, with the two batters stitching together a 246-run partnership and guiding India home. Rohit stayed unbeaten and finished the game with a maximum, helping India beat West Indies by eight wickets and with 47 balls to spare.
After the match, Chahal was asked about the duo's performance and had the following to say to the broadcasters:
“We enjoy watching them (Rohit and Kohli) bat, they are two legends of the game, (smiles) at times we feel they are playing PS4.”
Chahal spoke about his own performance in that game and had the following to say:
"On this wicket, we needed to vary our pace, we have to guess what the batsman is doing and bowl according to that. They were looking to hit sixes, so I didn’t want to bowl the fuller ball. They are strong guys, need to bowl slower in the air, it’s different when the ball spins."
Virat Kohli won the Player of the Match for his knock of 140 runs. He was later awarded the Player of the Series as well for scoring three tons in the series.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are a part of Team India's squad for the IND vs NZ 2024 Test series
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be a part of the Team India squad in their upcoming Test series against New Zealand. Both had a quiet outing with the bat in hand in the recently concluded Bangladesh series and will be looking to make amends.
India take on New Zealand in the first Test, starting Wednesday, October 16. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will be hosting the curtain-raiser of the series.
