Bangladesh Cricket Board strongly refutes rumors of players not receiving 2023 ODI World Cup prize money

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued a statement to clear the air surrounding the pay status of the players for their participation in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Rumors suggest that the cricketers were not compensated for representing the nation at the ICC event, even after nine months of its culmination.

The BCB made it clear that the delay has not been due to any fault of the board, and cited taxation formalities and compliance issues as the reason behind the issue, despite the submission of invoices being on time. They also clarified that such delays are common following ICC events, and a resolution is imminent.

According to the statement, the BCB has taken measures to speed up the process in the form of a renowned international accounting firm Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP. The board has assured that the players will be credited their due in the coming days.

"The BCB strongly refutes the untrue remarks made by the concerned councilor and vehemently protests the insinuations of malpractice against the Board and its officials on this matter. Such allegations are baseless and undermine the integrity of the BCB's operations," the statement read.

The BCB is in a shaky state at the minute given the political unrest that Bangladesh is going through. There has been a concrete effort to ensure that the cricketing activities are not being impacted due to the events unfolding in the nation.

Bangladesh finished eighth at the 2023 ODI World Cup

The Shakib Al Hasan-led side began the 2023 ODI World Cup on a strong note after securing a comfortable win over Afghanistan. However, their campaign derailed following that. Although the Tigers managed to secure another win in the league stage against Sri Lanka, they lost to the Netherlands in Kolkata and finished in eighth place with only four points.

The dismal finish also meant that Bangladesh just about managed to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan. The team are currently in Pakistan ahead of a two-match Test series as part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
