Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Sakib fined for breaching for Code of Conduct in T20 World Cup 2024 match vs Nepal
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Bangladeshi pacer Tanzim Sakib 15 percent of his match fee for violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the Tigers' fixture against Nepal in Kingstown on Sunday. The youngster violated Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The incident occurred in the third over of Nepal's innings when Sakib had an altercation with opposition skipper Rohit Paudel. However, Paudel clarified in the post-match press conference that there were no issues between them and praised the right-arm pacer.
Article 2.12 relates to 'inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match.' On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski along with third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena levelled the charge.
Sakib accepted the offence and sanction and hence, there was no need for a formal hearing.
Tanzim Sakib's outstanding spell propels Bangladesh to Super 8 stage:
The 21-year-old proved to be the pick of the bowlers in their crucial match against Nepal, recording figures of 4-2-7-4 as Bangladesh successfully defended 106 runs. Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets and Shakib Al Hasan bagged a couple as Bangladesh bowled Nepal out for 85 runs.
Bangladesh will face Afghanistan, Australia, and India in the Super 8 stage. They will start by facing Australia on June 21 in Antigua. Led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, the sub-continent team only suffered one defeat in the group stage, a four-run loss against South Africa.
The focus will be on the Bangladeshi skipper as he has been short of runs in the tournament, averaging 6.50 in four matches with 26 runs. Bangladesh have never reached the knockout stage of a T20 World Cup and will be hoping to break that streak in the ongoing tournament.
