"Ye bowlers hai? Mujhe to sakshat openers najar aa rahe hai"- Top 10 funny memes from day 1 of 1st IND vs BAN 2024 Test

Team India overcame a tricky situation and ended Day 1 in a comfortable position with the bat in the 1st Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on Thursday (September 19). They managed to reach 339/6 in 80 overs before stumps, with Ravichandran Ashwin (102*) and Ravindra Jadeja (86*) holding the fort.

Bangladesh dominated the first two sessions of the day after Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bowl in pacer-friendly conditions. Medium pacer Hasan Mahmud was the protagonist for the visitors with a magnificent four-wicket spell, which included the prized scalp of Virat Kohli. Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) put on a 62-run partnership for the fourth wicket after India were reduced to 34/3 in the first hour of the morning.

However, both fell after lunch without converting their starts as India found themselves in deep trouble at 144/6. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja joined forces at this juncture and rescued the hosts from a precarious situation with an astonishing 195-run unbeaten partnership. Their counter-attacking knocks put India in firm control after a disappointing start.

"Whenever the ball is there to be hit, I wanted to go hard"- India all-rounder Ashwin after hitting a century on Day 1 of 1st Test vs Bangladesh

After the conclusion of play on Day 1, veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin reflected on a special century at his home ground, saying:

"Always a special feeling to play in front of this crowd. I have a lot of happy memories playing here. I came here at the back of a T20 tournament and it helps a bit. I worked a lot on my batting and was happy it came off. Whenever the ball is there to be hit, I wanted to go hard as Rishabh does. It's an old Chennai surface and it's a red soil wicket. I love to play whenever there is a bounce and carry."

He continued:

"It's a typical Chennai wicket with the bounce for the spinners and they will come into play in the later stages of the innings. Surely, the new ball will do a bit and there will be help for the pacers. We are starting afresh and once the wicket dries, then we will latch on."
