BCCI announces 16-member squad for India Women’s ODI home series against New Zealand
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 16-member squad for India’s upcoming three-match ODI home series against New Zealand women starting Thursday, October 24. All the games will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the Women in Blue, with Smriti Mandhana acting as her deputy. Sayali Satgare, Tejal Hasabnis, Priya Mishra and Saima Thakor have received their maiden international call-ups for the series, while some notable names miss out.
Richa Ghosh, India’s wicketkeeper-batter, has opted out of the series owing to her 12th standard board exams. While Asha Shobana injured herself minutes before India’s T20 World Cup group stage clash against Australia and as a result failed to make it to the squad, Pooja Vastrakar, India’s pace sensation, has been rested.

India crash out of T20 World Cup 2024, New Zealand make semi-final appearance
India bowed out of the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 after suffering two defeats in four group-stage matches. After losing their campaign opener against New Zealand, they suffered another disappointing result in their last game against fierce rivals Australia.
Remaining unbeaten in the first stage, Australia topped the group to qualify for the semi-final, while the White Ferns became the second team to make it to the final four with three wins and one loss. While the Sophie Devine-led side would be keen on putting up a similar performance against India in the forthcoming ODIs, India would look to avenge their T20 World Cup loss with a series win.
