BCCI announces schedule for India's Women's ODI series against New Zealand
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the India Women’s upcoming ODI series against New Zealand on Monday, October 14. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team is currently participating in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the UAE and will face the White Ferns three days after the tournament concludes.
The three-match series will begin on Thursday, October 24, with the second game scheduled for Sunday, October 27. The final match is set for Tuesday, October 29. All games will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship, where the Women in Blue currently rank fifth on the table with 21 points. They have won 10 matches, lost one, and tied one.
New Zealand last hosted India for a five-match ODI series in 2022, where the hosts were dominant, winning the series 4-1. This time, the Women in Blue will be looking to improve their performance as they host the White Ferns in Ahmedabad.
New Zealand defeated India in the ongoing 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup
The Women in Blue faced the White Ferns in their opening game of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. New Zealand batted first, with openers Suzie Bates (27 off 24 balls) and Georgia Plimmer (34 off 23 balls) putting on a solid 67-run partnership for the first wicket in just 46 balls.
Amelia Kerr had a disappointing performance, managing only 13 runs off 22 balls. However, captain Sophie Devine shone with an unbeaten 57 runs off 36 balls, striking seven boundaries. New Zealand finished their innings at 160/4 in 20 overs, while Renuka Singh took two wickets for India.
In response, the Indian batters struggled significantly, with Harmanpreet Kaur being the top scorer for the team with 15 runs. The Women in Blue were bundled out for 102 in 19 overs, losing by 58 runs. Rosemary Mair took four wickets for New Zealand.
