BCCI refutes rumors of closed-door practice request at WACA - ReportsĀ
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has denied issuing any request for a closed-door practice session or intra-squad match at the WACA in Perth. Earlier reports from Australian media outlets claimed that the construction workers involved in the iconic venue's refurbishment were barred from watching the proceedings or taking any footage.
"This week India and India A are training at the WACA Ground from Tuesday 12 November until Sunday 17 November, as part of India's preparation for the Test Match at Perth Stadium the following week. During all training sessions, please do not take any photos or videos or fly any drones, of the training sessions and please do not sit and watch the sessions," an email sent by ADCO Constructions' Adam Sauzier to his employees read (via The Australian).
Additionally, the bordering area was surrounded by tall black fences, making it impossible for fans and journalists to take note of the net sessions. However, slowly clips of players practicing, along with the arrival of Virat Kohli, began to make the rounds on social media.
On Wednesday, November 13, the BCCI's social media handle posted several images of the net sessions. Furthermore, a video montage was released on Thursday, November 14, showcasing the team's preparation for the series.
Amid this confusion, a BCCI source cleared the air by affirming there are no 'secret' sessions being conducted.
"Neither from India or from India A such a request, at least on official capacity, has gone demanding closed-door net sessions. The practice session is open to all. The Indian and Australian media can watch and cover for as long as they want. There is no such restrictions till now," a source in the know of things told PTI on the condition of anonymity.
The India 'A' players, after their two-match series against Australia 'A', are also present with the main squad to help them prepare for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The first Test between India and Australia is scheduled to begin from November 22 onwards
The build-up to the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been riveting. Early jibes in the form of comments in the media and the fact that India are coming on the back of a 0-3 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand are just layers and foundation for the lengthy five-match affair ahead.
The series opener will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22 onwards. India's preparations are well underway, albeit without skipper Rohit Sharma, who is likely to miss the first Test to attend the birth of his second child.
