"Bewakoof tu nahi hai, bewakoof main hoon" - Mohit Sharma recalls MS Dhoni scolding Deepak Chahar in IPL 2019

MS Dhoni is known for his calm and composed demeanor on the field. However, there have been a few exceptions where the champion cricketer has lost his cool. Pacer Mohit Sharma recently recalled one such incident.

Sharma disclosed that Deepak Chahar faced Dhoni's wrath in IPL 2019 for not listening to his suggestion. He mentioned that Dhoni had asked Chahar to stop bowling the knuckle ball in a particular match since the ball was slipping out of the hands due to sweat.

The veteran bowler stated that Chahar ended up bowling another knuckleball despite Dhoni's advice. To make matters worse for him, the ball went over the batter's head and was adjudged a no-ball.

Sharing details of Dhoni's conversation with Chahar after the incident, here's what Sharma said in a video shared on the YouTube channel 2 Sloggers:

"In 2019, we were playing in Chennai. It was very hot and humid. Deepak Chahar bowled a knuckle ball which ended up being a full toss. Mahi bhai told him to not bowl the knuckle ball. After a couple of balls, he once again bowled the knuckle ball, which was a high full-toss that went over the batter's head.
"Mahi bhai placed his hand on Deepak's shoulder and said something. After the match, he came to us and told us what happened. He told us that Mahi bhai said, 'Bewakoof tu nahi hai, bewakoof main hoon (You are not a fool, I am).'"

MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020. However, he continues to ply his trade for CSK in IPL. He handed over the CSK captaincy reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the 2024 edition. The former Indian captain dazzled the viewers with his big hitting and scored 161 runs from 73 balls in the season.

The Chennai-based side failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing fifth in the standings.

"His anger only comes on the ground" - Mohit Sharma on MS Dhoni

In the aforementioned video, Mohit Sharma stated that even he has heard a few abusive words from MS Dhoni. However, he emphasized that the veteran keeper's anger is only limited to the cricket field.

Suggesting that Dhoni doesn't get angry off the field, Sharma said (from 57:42):

"He (MS Dhoni) does get angry. Bohot gaaliya khai hai hum log ne (We have heard a lot of abuses). However, whatever has happened on the ground, he leaves it there. He will make you understand out of the ground, he won't be angry. His anger only comes on the ground."

Mohit Sharma's IPL career got a new lease of life in 2023 after being added to the Gujarat Titans (GT) squad. The experienced bowler has done a commendable job for GT, bagging 40 wickets across two seasons.
