Birthday boy Jasprit Bumrah becomes first bowler to achieve incredible feat on Day 1 of 2nd BGT 2024-25 Test

Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah celebrates his 31st birthday and added a bit to his birthday celebrations as he picked up his 50th Test wicket this year. He also becomes the only bowler to achieve this feat in Tests, doing so on Day 1 of the second Test between India and Australia which is being played at the Adelaide Oval.

Jasprit Bumrah was asked to chip in with the bat, and the pacer didn't quite enjoy the outing, being dismissed for an eight-ball duck by Pat Cummins.

Team India were bundled out for 180 and Bumrah started the proceedings with the ball, being met with disappointment as Rishabh Pant dropped Nathan McSweeney on two runs.

But Bumrah wasn't one to shy away and the birthday boy would blow one of the batters like a candle on his cake. On the last ball of the 11th over, Usman Khawaja was undone by a delivery from the 31-year-old and nicked one behind to the slips, which was held onto safely by Rohit Sharma.

That wicket of Usman Khawaja became Bumrah's 50th Test wicket this year. The pacer has been a part of 11 Tests, picking up 50 wickets at an average of 15.14 and an average of 2.98. His 6/45 at Vishakapatnam in the second Test against England earlier this year was his best figures for the calendar year.

Bumrah, while being first on the list, has been closely followed by fellow teammate Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin currently has 46 wickets to his name and needs four more to become the second bowler to achieve the feat.

Team India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been the only bowler with some success under his belt. Sending down nine overs, Bumrah has bowled four maiden overs conceding only 11 runs and picking up the wicket of Usman Khawaja.

Australia are currently 77/1 after 29 overs. Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne are batting in the middle for the hosts and will look to hold fort till Stumps are called on Day 1 of this Test.
