India beat Pakistan comfortably by six wickets in the seventh match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday (October 6) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. It was a much-needed win for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side after a disappointing 58-run loss against New Zealand in their opening match of the tournament.
After opting to bat first, Pakistan could only reach a low score of 105/8 in 20 overs. Senior all-rounder Nida Dar (28) top-scored for them, while a couple of other batters chipped in with useful contributions. Arundhati Reddy (3/19) and Shreyanka Patil (2/12) starred for India with the ball.
In response, India chased down the target in 18.5 overs to open their account in the points table of the 2024 World Cup. Shafali Verma (32), Jemimah Rodrigues (23), and Harmanpreet Kaur (29) played sensible knocks in the winning cause.

"Hopefully this game can give us momentum"- Smriti Mandhana after India's victory against Pakistan in ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024
At the post-match presentation, Smriti Mandhana reflected on the Indian team's performance against Pakistan, saying:
"We were really disciplined as a bowling and fielding unit. We could have done better with a better start with the bat but we will take this. We did have the NRR in mind but me and Shafali were not able to time the ball as well as we would have liked at the start. We have the NRR in our heads. Hopefully this game can give us momentum."
When enquired about captain Harmanpreet Kaur's injury issue, Mandhana added:
"Too soon to comment on that (Harman's injury), the medical team is having a look, hopefully it is nothing serious."
India will next face Sri Lanka on Wednesday (October 9) at the same venue in Dubai.
