"Childhood crush for good reason" - Richa Chadha on Rahul Dravid after India's 2024 T20 World Cup win
Team India head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure ended on a high note as the Men in Blue clinched the 2024 T20 World Cup trophy with a seven-run win over South Africa in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. Indian actress Richa Chadha was mighty pleased with Dravid's accomplishment.
Taking to her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Chadha shared a throwback picture, featuring her 'childhood crush' Dravid's poster on the wall. Thanking the cricketer-turned-coach for his contribution, she wrote:
"Childhood crush for good reason. #TheWall thank you again Mr Dravid."
Rahul Dravid finally earned the World Cup-winner tag, something that eluded him during his playing career. India successfully defended a 177-run target against South Africa in the summit clash.
Virat Kohli was the top performer with the bat in the crucial encounter, scoring 76 runs off 59 balls. Hardik Pandya bagged three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took two scalps apiece.
"These bunch of boys have made it possible for me to win this trophy" - Rahul Dravid
Reacting to India's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, Rahul Dravid pointed out how he wasn't lucky enough to win a World Cup trophy during his playing days. He thanked Rohit Sharma and Co. for helping him clinch the coveted trophy for the very first time.
Speaking to the media after the final, Dravid said:
"As a player, I was not lucky enough to win a trophy but I always gave my best. However, it's part of the game. There are a lot of other players I know, who haven't won a trophy. I was lucky that I was given the opportunity to coach a team and these bunch of boys have made it possible for me to win this trophy. It's a great feeling but it's not like that I was in for some redemption and it was just a job that I was doing."
It is worth mentioning that Dravid resigned from India's ODI captaincy after the team's group-stage exit in the 2007 50-over World Cup. His life came a full circle as he signed off with a T20 World Cup glory in the West Indies.
