New Zealand beat India comfortably by eight wickets in the first Test on Sunday (October 20) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. As a result, they went 1-0 up in the three-match series. It was also a memorable moment for New Zealand as it was their first Test win in India since 1988.
The Kiwis began the final day of the match at 0/0, chasing 107 for the historic victory. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah raised hopes of Indian fans by dismissing New Zealand captain Tom Latham on the very second ball on Day 5. He also sent back Devon Conway (17) after a while to keep his side's slim chances alive.
However, Will Young (48*) and Rachin Ravindra (39*) batted positively after two early wickets and finished the chase in 27.4 overs.
Rohit Sharma's captaincy has come under scanner yet again on Sunday for not giving the ball to Ravichandran Ashwin until the final moments of the match. He also received criticism for batting first in overcast and damp conditions and then letting New Zealand's lower-order score more than 100 runs in the first innings.
Fans enjoyed the action that unfolded during the first Test between the two teams in Bengaluru. They expressed their reactions at the end of the contest by sharing memes on social media.

"When Sarfaraz and Pant are batting, we are all at the edge of our seats. It was a matured innings from Pant. Defended the good balls. Then, played his shots. Not to forget Sarfaraz, who showed great maturity. He was very clear about the kind of shots that he wanted to play."
He concluded:
"Credit to New Zealand. They challenged every corner of our bat. We have the guys who know how to bounce back. We lost the first Test against England and then won the series."
