"Competing in 6 World Cups and clinching victory in the last one is an experience I know well"- Tendulkar pens a note to Virat, Rohit

Sachin Tendulkar shared a special Instagram post for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after the Indian duo announced their retirement from T20I cricket on Saturday, June 29. The iconic batters quit the shortest format of the game after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Sharing a message for Kohli on Instagram, Tendulkar labelled him as a 'true champion' of the sport. Tendulkar also highlighted how the Delhi batter was struggling in the T20 World Cup 2024 before the final, but stepped up in the match that mattered the most.

"Competing in six World Cups and clinching victory in the last one is an experience I know well. I hope to see you continue winning matches for India in the longer formats of the game," the last part of Tendulkar's message for Kohli read.

Tendulkar was one of the senior players in the Indian team when Rohit Sharma debuted. The former Indian batter wrote about how Sharma has evolved from a youngster to a World Cup-winning skipper in 17 years.

"I’ve witnessed your evolution from a promising youngster to a World Cup-winning captain from close quarters. Your unwavering commitment & exceptional talent have brought immense pride to the nation," Tendulkar wrote.

The cricketing great also felt that Kohli and Sharma ended their T20I careers in the best way possible by winning the T20 World Cup in their last match.

Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli's similar journey to World Cup wins

Incidentally, Tendulkar played five ODI World Cups without winning one, but he won the title in his sixth edition in 2011, and Virat Kohli experienced a similar journey in the T20I format.

Virat played his first T20 World Cup back in 2012 in Sri Lanka. Despite performing well in the 2012, 2014, 2016, 2021 and 2022 editions of the mega event, he never got a chance to put his hands on the T20 World Cup trophy. He finally won it on Saturday, June 29, with Team India in Barbados.
