"Continuing from where he left against England" - Fans react to Yashasvi Jaiswal's gritty 56 in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test
Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with the bat for India against Bangladesh in the opening Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Day 1 (Thursday, September 19). The left-handed batter scored 56 runs off 118 balls, a knock laced with nine boundaries.
The youngster kept scoring after India captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli flopped badly in the morning session. The Mumbai batter also stitched together a crucial 62-run partnership with Rishabh Pant to recover the hosts from 36-3. He also shared a 48-run partnership with KL Rahul. Jaiswal was eventually caught by Shadman Islam in the slips off Nahid Rana's bowling.
Jaiswal currently has the most runs in 2024 Tests, having amassed 796 runs in 12 innings. He is only behind former England captain Joe Root, who has 986 runs in 20 innings this year. The duo is placed similarly in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle with 1084 (17 innings) and 1398 runs (29 innings), respectively.
