CSK captain smashes 57-ball hundred vs Services in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024
Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad impressed for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024, scoring an unbeaten century against Services on Monday, December 23. The game was held at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in BKC, Mumbai.
Maharashtra captain Ruturaj won the toss and chose to field. Services lost an early wicket with opener Ravi Chauhan dismissed for eight. Skipper Mohit Ahlawat was the standout performer for Services, scoring 61 off 64 balls. However, no other batter made a significant contribution as Services were bowled out for 204 in 48 overs.
In reply, Ruturaj came out aggressively, single-handedly taking the game away from Services. The 27-year-old brought up his century in just 57 balls. He remained unbeaten on 148 off 74 balls, smashing 16 boundaries and 11 sixes.
Maharashtra won the match by nine wickets, successfully chasing down the target in just 20.2 overs and securing their second consecutive victory of the tournament.
Gaikwad’s team secured a three-wicket victory over Rajasthan in their tournament opener. Chasing a target of 216, Ankit Bawne played a crucial knock, remaining unbeaten on 74 off 95 balls, including 10 boundaries, to guide his team to victory.

The Maharashtra cricketer made his India debut in 2021 in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Since then, the opening batter has featured in 23 T20Is, scoring 633 runs at an average of 39.56, with four fifties and one century.
His maiden century came against Australia in 2023 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, where he remained unbeaten on 123 off 57 balls, hitting 13 boundaries and seven sixes.
However, despite his brilliant knock, India ended up on the losing side as Australia chased down the target on the final ball, securing a five-wicket win. The 27-year-old has also played six ODIs, scoring 115 runs, including one fifty.
