CSK vs SRH: Who won yesterday's match in IPL 2024?
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 78 runs in yesterday's IPL 2024 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Sent into bat, CSK posted 212-3 as Ruturaj Gaikwad led the way with 98 off 54. Pacer Tushar Deshpande then claimed 4-27 as SRH were knocked over for 134 in 18.5 overs.
Batting first, the Super Kings again lost Ajinkya Rahane (9) cheaply as he dragged a length ball from Bhuvneshwar Kumar to wide long-on. Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell (52 off 33), though, put CSK in firm control, adding 107 for the second wicket. While Gaikwad struck 10 fours and three sixes, Mitchell hit seven fours and a six.
The entertaining second-wicket stand ended when Mitchell dragged a full toss from Jaydev Unadkat to deep midwicket. Gaikwad, though, continued to find the boundaries with ease and featured in another impressive stand of 74 with Shivam Dube (39* off 20). Gaikwad looked set for a ton, but fell two short, caught at long-on off a slower one from T Natarajan in the 20th over.
MS Dhoni (5*) came in and struck a four wide of deep wicket, while Dube hit a six over wide long-on as Chennai Super Kings went past 210.
Deshpande's four-fer sinks SRH
Chennai Super Kings pacer Deshpande claimed three wickets inside the powerplay to put Sunrisers Hyderabad on the back foot in their chase of 213.
Travis Head (13) sliced a slower ball to deep point. Anmolpreet Singh fell for a golden duck as he got a leading edge while attempting to turn one to the leg side. Abhishek Sharma (15) then hit a short ball from Deshpande to deep point, much like Head.
The three strikes proved to be telling blows, and SRH never recovered. Aiden Markram contributed 32 off 26, but was bowled by a brutal inswinging yorker from Matheesha Pathirana (2-17). Heinrich Klaasen struggled for his 20 off 21 and ended up chipping a catch off Pathirana to long-on.
There was nothing much to write home about SRH's lower-order batting, as Mustafizur Rahman (2-19) and Shardul Thakur (1-27) helped themselves to some easy wickets.
