"Day Bumrah retires is the day we become an associate cricketing nation" - Fans hail ace pacer for magical five-wicket haul in 3rd BGT 2024-25 Test
Fans were impressed as Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah continued his domination of world cricket with another five-wicket haul on Day 2 (Sunday, December 15) of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Brisbane. The 31-year-old struck twice on the second morning, removing openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney to reduce Australia to 38/2 in their first innings.
However, a massive double-century partnership between Travis Head and Steve Smith took Australia to a commanding position of 316/3. Yet, Bumrah brought India back into the contest with three quick wickets, reducing the hosts to 327/6 and completing his five-wicket haul.
It was his 12th five-wicket haul in Tests, a third in Australia, and second in the ongoing series.
Bumrah was yet again the lone warrior for Team India in the bowling department, taking his series-leading wicket tally to 17 at an average of 12.17. His figures read an outstanding 5/72 in 25 overs after the second new ball spell.
Fans on X/Twitter hailed the ace pacer for another magnificent performance with the following reactions:
Fans continued hailing Bumrah for his brilliant bowling display, with one saying:
"Remove bumrah and India’s losing 90% matches played in 2024."
"The day Bumrah retires is the day we become an associate cricketing nation," tweeted a fan.
"Thank you Bumrah for always saving us. Our bowlers are shit and I feel really bad for GOAT Bumrah. No support from any other bowlers.Future of Indian team is really dark and we really need to invest in better bowlers," a fan said.
Australia in dominant position despite Jasprit Bumrah's masterclass
While Jasprit Bumrah continued his bowling domination, he could not prevent Australia from taking control of the third Test in Brisbane. The champion pacer received little support from the other end as Travis Head and Steve Smith helped themselves to contrasting centuries.
The former smashed his second consecutive century after his match-winning 140 in Adelaide, while Smith overcame a barren run to bring up his 33rd Test ton. The duo took Australia from a precarious 75/3 to 316/3 before the Bumrah blitz.
Despite the brief collapse, Alex Carey and Pat Cummins took Australia past the 350-run mark in the first innings of the all-important third Test, with the series tied at 1-1.
With only 13.2 overs possible on Day 1 due to persistent rain, Australia are looking for quick runs at 354/6 in 93 overs at the end of the second day.
