Deepak Chahar signed by MI for INR 9.25 crore in IPL 2025 AuctionÂ
Indian pacer Deepak Chahar has been roped in by the Mumbai Indians (MI) for a sum of INR 9.25 crore on Day 2 of the ongoing 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction in Jeddah.
The right-arm bowler, known for his ability to move the new ball, invoked instant interest by the Mumbai Indians (MI) right after the franchise lost a bidding war to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The five-time winners faced stiff competition from the Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Chahar's former franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also expressed a late interest but bowed out after a couple of bids. The pacer has had issues with injuries in the past but has been playing consistently in the Indian domestic season for Rajasthan, including the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament.
The pacer had secured a massive pay cheque of INR 14 crore by CSK during the previous mega auction after not being retained by the franchise.
Deepak Chahar has a brilliant record at the Wankhede Stadium
The pacer arguably completes MI's starting pace trio, having already retained spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, and buying back Trent Boult on Day 1 of the auction. With Chahar's ability to swing the ball, the Wankhede proves to be the ideal venue for him to showcase his skills, much like he has done in the past.
Some of the pacer's best bowling displays came at the iconic venue, particularly during the IPL 2021 and 2022 seasons when the tournament was held across a few select venues in a caravan-style scheduling.
He has picked up 13 wickets in 11 matches at the venue at an average of 19.09 and an economy of just 7.11, including a memorable spell of 4-11. With MI's death bowling secured to a degree, Chahar's new-ball ability could be maximized by four overs on the trot.
