"Definitely a guy to keep an eye on" - Morne Morkel on Nitish Reddy ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

Team India bowling coach Morne Morkel believes Nitish Kumar Reddy has immense potential, suggesting he could play a part in the upcoming Test series against Australia. Morkel opined that the youngster could hold one end for the bowlers efficiently.

Reddy made his T20I debut last month during the home series against Bangladesh, showcasing his potential with both bat and ball. The 21-year-old has featured in 23 first-class matches to date, scoring 779 runs along with bagging 56 scalps.

Speaking at a presser on Wednesday, Morkel said Reddy's success could depend on how Jasprit Bumrah uses him, and added that he brings with him plenty of promise.

"He is one of the young guys. Batting all round ability. He'll be one guy who can hold one end for us, especially for the first couple of days. Wicket to wicket bowler. Any team in the world would want an all rounder who can help the pacers. It'll be on Jasprit how he uses them. Definitely a guy to keep an eye on in the series," Morkel said (via RevSportz Global on X).

The former South African speedster also praised Virat Kohli, saying his training regime is something youngsters can look up to.

"The intensity and professionalism he brings is top, always putting him under pressure in nets. For youngsters to witness that, it'll take their game to a different level."

Kohli is arguably among the players most in focus ahead of the series due to his past exploits in Australia. At the same time, the 36-year-old's lean run in recent times has captured as much attention.

Morne Morkel went on to warn that a largely young batting line-up will face a stern test against the Aussie quicks on a lively surface. He added:

"Pressure is one thing but for a young squad, there are lot of unknowns. We need to break it down to sessions. Be brave and front up a quality bowling attack. Australia won't bowl a lot of freebies. The wicket is going to be fast and bouncy."

The opening Test begins on Friday, November 22, in Perth.
