Delhi Capitals buy Mitchell Starc for INR 11.75 crore at IPL 2025 Auction
After a fiery bidding war, Mitchell Starc was roped in by Delhi Capitals for INR 11.75 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Australian pacer was the costliest buy in IPL history until last year when the Kolkata Knight Riders got him for INR 24.75 crore.
Starc, who was in the news throughout IPL 2024, won the title with KKR as the then Shreyas Iyer-led side defeated Pat Cummins’ SunRisers Hyderabad in the summit clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Even though KKR had the RTM card, they opted not to use it on either Mitchell Starc or Shreyas Iyer, both of whom have now moved out of the Kolkata-based franchise to join Delhi and Punjab Kings, respectively.
Delhi Capitals seek new captain after Rishabh Pant’s move to LSG
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) raised their bid of 20.75 crore to INR 27 crore when Delhi Capitals looked to use their RTM card on Rishabh Pant. DC didn’t match their bid as Pant became the costliest player in the history of IPL as Lucknow Super Giants sealed the deal.
Set 1 of marquee players saw a dramatic climax as LSG raised their bid at the last moment. Now that the Capitals have Mitchell Starc in their ranks, they can look to hand him the team’s captaincy if they don’t manage to rope in any other player for that role.
Rishabh Pant is currently playing for the Indian side at the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which commenced on November 22 in Australia. India and Australia are playing the first Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
Pant, who returned to IPL after a long break, captained Delhi Capitals in the 2024 edition. Having roped in the wicketkeeper-batter, LSG might hand him over the captaincy after KL Rahul’s exit.
