Delhi Capitals owners to split responsibilities of multiple teams within the franchise
The owners of the Delhi Capitals' IPL and WPL teams, GMR Group and JSW Sports, have mutually decided to split the responsibilities of the various teams that come under the umbrella of the franchise. This was communicated via a press release today (Thursday, October 17).
In 2018, JSW Sports entered a 50:50 partnership with the GMR Group for what started out as the Delhi Daredevils in 2008. The franchise was renamed to Delhi Capitals in 2019. The joint owners have since invested in leagues all over the world — Pretoria Capitals in SA20, Dubai Capitals in ILT20, Delhi Capitals Women in WPL, and India Capitals in the Legends League Cricket.
On Thursday, the Capitals announced in a press release that the responsibilities of the various teams will be shared going forward. It mentioned that the GMR Group will handle the operations for the Delhi Capitals men’s team for the next two years, during which JSW Sports will look after the Delhi Capitals women’s team. The roles will switch in 2027.
Here is what the press release said (via Cricbuzz):
"The understanding will see GMR Group drive cricketing operations of the Delhi Capitals Men’s team for the next two years, during which JSW Sports will steer operations of the Delhi Capitals Women’s team. The roles will switch when JSW Sports takes over the running of the Men’s team in 2027. The business operations of the franchise, however, will continue to be run by the Delhi Capitals’ management team. Key decisions like auctions, captaincy, player release and retentions of both teams will be made by the Delhi Capitals’ board, and will be decided mutually by senior leadership of both groups."
The press release further mentioned that the GMR Group will continue to manage the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 League, while JSW Sports will run the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20.
