Dhaka court imposes travel ban on Shakib Al Hasan related to 8.97 crore corruption case: Reports
A court in Dhaka has imposed a travel ban on cricketer-turned-politician Shakib Al Hasan along with 15 others related to a corruption case worth Tk 8.97 crore and Tk 4.48 crore. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate petitions, with Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain sanctioning the order.
According to the filed petitions, the seasoned all-rounder and his accomplices allegedly accumulated illicit wealth by investing crores of Taka in the stock market through irregular means, considered to be a violation of stock market regulations. The ACC went on to claim that the veteran cricketer carried out transactions worth staggering amounts of Tk 8.97 crore and Tk 4.48 crore, intending to embezzle funds, thereby violating Section 19(1) of Rule 24(3) of the microcredit law.
ACC Assistant Director Sajjad Hossain and Deputy Director Md Rokonuzzaman filed the petitions, wanting the accused to be restricted from travelling outside Bangladesh until further notice.
Shakib Al Hasan hasn't played for Bangladesh since October 2024

One of the most accomplished all-rounders in cricketing history across formats, the former Bangladesh skipper hasn't featured for the national team since the second Test against India in Kanpur in October 2024. The 38-year-old had returned to competitive cricket during the 2025 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after a six-month layoff, with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) clearing his bowling action. However, Shakib struggled in PSL 2025, managing only one wicket in the tournament alongside registering a couple of ducks.
The spin-bowling all-rounder had plans to play his final Test at home during the home series against South Africa, but the political upheaval in Bangladesh, resulting in the toppling of the Awami League, threw them in disarray. He also missed out on Bangladesh's squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Having played 71 Tests, 247 ODIs, and 129 T20Is, it's unlikely for Shakib to ever feature for Bangladesh again. As for Bangladesh, they are currently playing an away two-Test series against Sri Lanka.
