Did Venkatesh Iyer really make fun of RCB's bowling attack in IPL 2024 interview? Exploring the truth
Venkatesh Iyer trended on social media yesterday as a half-clip of his interview with IPLT20.com went viral on Instagram. Before the IPL 2024 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Iyer spoke to commentator Sanjay Manjrekar in Hindi.
Manjrekar asked questions about his preparations for the big game at Eden Gardens. Manjrekar even reminded Iyer that he scored a half-century against RCB in their previous meeting at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
While Venkatesh Iyer was in the middle of his response, Mohammed Siraj came and teased him. He wasn't visible on camera, which is why fans felt that Iyer was laughing on RCB's bowling attack.
Here is what Iyer said before Siraj distracted him:
"RCB is the most dangerous side right now. They have a really good bowling attack."
The full video is available on IPLT20.com. It has been embedded below, and here are the comments made after the above reel ended.
"Oh, Mohammed Siraj has come beside you. He is building pressure on you here it seems. You can say what you say if you think RCB's bowling is a little weak." Sanjay Manjrekar said.
"No, no, it's not like that. RCB is a good team. They are the most dangerous side right now, to be honest. Teams tend to get desperate from the situation which they are in at the moment," Venkatesh Iyer responded.
Venkatesh Iyer issued a clarification on Instagram after the reels went viral
Multiple social media pages posted the half-clip on their accounts, which received a ton of attention from the fans. Iyer noticed the viral video and left the following comment on Instagram:
"Please don't spread such things! The context was totally different."
As far as Iyer's batting performance is concerned, the southpaw scored 16 runs off eight balls against RCB. Despite his failure to score big, KKR won the match by one run.
