Ellyse Perry creates history, makes remarkable record in AUS vs IND 2024 ODI series
Australia's Ellyse Perry made history during the second game of the ongoing three-match ODI series against India on Sunday, December 8, by becoming the first woman cricketer to achieve the remarkable double of 7,000 runs and 300 wickets in international cricket. The match is being held at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
The 34-year-old, batting at No. 3, reached her fifty in just 43 balls and continued her aggressive play, bringing up her third ODI century off 72 balls. In doing so, Perry also became the fourth Australian women player to score 4,000 runs in ODI cricket.
The seasoned all-rounder has accumulated 4,064 runs in 149 ODIs at an average of 50.80, with 34 fifties and three centuries. In T20Is, she has scored 2,088 runs in 162 matches, including nine fifties. In Tests, Perry has made 928 runs in 13 matches at an average of 61.86, with four fifties and two centuries. Overall, she has now accumulated 7,080 runs in international cricket.
On the bowling front, the right-arm pacer has claimed 165 wickets in ODIs, 39 in Tests, and 126 in T20Is, bringing her total to 330 wickets across formats. This remarkable achievement makes her the first woman cricketer to amass over 7,000 runs and 300 wickets in international cricket.
Centuries from Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry help Australia post a massive total in the second ODI against India
Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. Openers Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll put on a superb opening partnership of 130 runs from 116 balls. Litchfield scored 60 off 63 balls, while Voll and Ellyse Perry added 92 runs off 78 for the second wicket. Voll brought up her century during the partnership, making 101 off 87 balls with 12 boundaries.
Perry was outstanding, scoring her third ODI century, finishing with 105 off 75 balls, which included seven boundaries and six sixes. Beth Mooney also contributed 56 off 44 balls as Australia finished at 371 for eight in their 50 overs.
