England captain Ben Stokes presented with silver cap for completing 100 Test matches
On Thursday (July 11), England Test captain Ben Stokes was presented with a silver cap for completing 100 red-ball matches for the esteemed cricketing nation earlier this year. The picture of the same emerged on England cricket's official social media handles as the all-rounder could be seen standing beside ECB chairman Richard Thompson, posing with the cap.
Stokes reached this milestone during England's tour of India earlier this year when the two sides locked horns in the 3rd Test in Rajkot. However, it proved to be a forgettable match for the 33-year-old as the tourists lost by a staggering margin of 434 runs, with the seam-bowling all-rounder managing scores of 41 and 15.
The five-Test series started on a promising note for England with a come-from-behind victory in Hyderabad.
However, they eventually lost the series 4-1, with Stokes suffering his first series defeat.
Ben Stokes takes a wicket as England dominate Day 1 of the first Test against the West Indies
The England captain recently claimed the wicket of West Indies' debutant Mikyle Louis as the home side dominated Day 1 of the opening Test at Lord's. England debutant Gus Atkinson emerged as the star of the show, claiming an astonishing seven wickets to skittle the tourists for 121 in 41.4 overs.
By the end of the day, England were leading by 68 runs, with Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope hitting brisk half-centuries. While the focus was on James Anderson due to his final Test, he picked up just a wicket throughout the day, taking his tally to 701 overall.
At the pre-match press conference, the Durham all-rounder addressed Anderson's exit from international cricket due to England's focus on the Ashes series Down Under next year.
Dillon Pennington, who is another uncapped player in the squad, could make his debut in place of Anderson in the 2nd Test against the West Indies.
