"Even if he doesn't bat, he can make more impact as captain"- Sanjay Manjrekar wants CSK to name MS Dhoni as skipper for IPL 2025
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has suggested Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to hand captaincy back to MS Dhoni for IPL 2025. Manjrekar opined that Dhoni can make more impact as a skipper than Ruturaj Gaikwad, who failed to lead CSK to the playoffs last season.
Speaking on Star Sports Hindi, Sanjay Manjrekar shared his views on MS Dhoni's future in the IPL. Manjrekar first joked that the broadcaster had retained him as an 'uncapped commentator' for IPL before mentioning that Dhoni will likely be retained by CSK as an uncapped player.
Manjrekar then commented that if Dhoni is available to play for CSK, the franchise should use him as a captain. Here's what the former Indian player had to say:
"Dhoni should become captain of CSK in IPL 2025. He played under Ruturaj Gaikwad last season. It was not so much fun to watch. Even if Dhoni doesn't bat, he can make more impact as captain and wicketkeeper alone for CSK."
It is pertinent to note that Dhoni captained CSK last in IPL 2023. The Super Kings won the tournament that year by defeating Gujarat Titans in a memorable final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Will MS Dhoni return as Chennai Super Kings captain in IPL 2025?
Although Sanjay Manjrekar has suggested Dhoni to return as the CSK skipper next season, it seems unlikely that the legendary wicketkeeper batter will become the team's captain again. In a recent media appearance for Rigi App, Dhoni made it clear that he wanted to enjoy whatever cricket was left in him.
Dhoni further highlighted that he wanted to enjoy the game the same way he did when he was a kid. Since Dhoni wants to enjoy cricket, he may not want any pressure of captaincy in IPL 2025.
