Indian cricket team players, former and current, took to social media on Thursday, August 15, to extend their wishes on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day. India gained its independence from the British colonizers on August 15, 1947.
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir and former skippers Anil Kumble, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Sachin Tendulkar were some of the notable names to extend their heartfelt wishes on X.
Here are some of the reactions:
"Celebrating the freedom that allows us to dream big and achieve even bigger. Wishing everyone a very Happy Independence Day! Let’s keep making our country proud in whatever we do. Jai Hind!" Cheteshwar Pujara wrote.
"On this Independence Day, I salute the spirit of every Indian who continues to strive for excellence, be it on the field or off it. Let’s keep pushing boundaries, together. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!" former Indian skipper Anil Kumble expressed.
"Sportspersons aren't the only ones playing for India. Every Indian who does their job with honesty and sincerity is a key player for Team India. So, when the national anthem plays today, know that it's for you, and I hope you'll feel the same way I did when I heard it every time I stepped out to play for India. सभी को स्वतंत्रता दिवस की ढेर सारी शुभकामनाएँ। #IndependenceDay," Sachin Tendulkar quipped on the occasion of India's 78th Independence day.
"Always proud and honoured to stand with our tricolour! Here’s wishing everyone a very Happy Independence Day," Yuvraj Singh wrote on Instagram.
