"Everyone has forgotten that it was I who appointed Rohit as the captain"- Sourav Ganguly takes dig at critics after India's T20 World Cup triumph

Former Indian captain and Board Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly went after critics who blasted him for making Rohit Sharma the skipper in early 2022. Ganguly feels with Rohit leading India to glory in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, the same critics have almost forgotten who made the decision then.

After Virat Kohli was forced to step down from captaincy following India's tumultuous 2021 T20 World Cup campaign and replaced by Rohit in a few months, Ganguly took a beating on social media from fans.

However, in a conversation with Ajkaal today, the former skipper gave a stern reminder to critics.

"When I handed Rohit Sharma the captaincy of the Indian team, everyone criticised me. Now that India has won the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, everyone has stopped abusing me for it. In fact, I think everyone has forgotten that it was I who appointed him as the captain of the Indian team," said Ganguly.

Team India rampaged through the 2024 T20 World Cup to become the first-ever side to win the title without a single loss.

The side also qualified for the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) and ODI World Cup under Rohit.

"I want DC to win this time" - Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals (DC), wanted the franchise to break through and win their elusive IPL title.

The franchise separated from seven-year head coach Ricky Ponting, who was at the top from 2018 to 2024. After three consecutive playoff runs from 2019 to 2021, DC missed the top four in the three seasons since.

"I am planning for the next IPL. I want DC to win this time. I will speak to the management about appointing an Indian as the head coach. I want to give a shot as the head coach. I will bring in some new players," said Ganguly.

Despite parting ways with Ponting, DC enjoyed their best seasons under the former Australian captain, including a lone final appearance in 2020.

In the ten years before Ponting became their head coach, the franchise qualified for the playoffs only thrice.
