“EXCITED TO SEE YOU ALL”: Arshdeep Singh thrilled to meet fans in his hometown of Chandigarh
Indian player Arshdeep Singh is excited to meet his fans in Chandigarh after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. A victory parade has been organized in the city for the left-arm pacer.
This comes after Men in Blue took part in an open-top bus victory parade and a felicitation ceremony in Mumbai on July 4. Arshdeep Singh was an instrumental part of the team that defeated South Africa in the final by seven runs on June 29 in Barbados.
The pacer took to Instagram stories, writing:
“EXCITED TO SEE YOU ALL AT 6:30 PM ON CHANDIGARH AIRPORT ROAD!”
Arshdeep Singh was the joint leading wicket-taker, along with Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi, at the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Indian pacer took 17 wickets in eight matches at an average of 12.64. He was brilliant with the ball in all phases of the game.
The left-arm pacer also bowled the crucial penultimate over in the final game against South Africa. He only gave up four runs when Ptoteas needed 20 of the last two.
Arshdeep took two important wickets from Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock in his four-over spell and only conceded 20 runs as Men in Blue ended their 11-year drought for the ICC trophy.
"They keep their eyes shut when I bowl" - Arshdeep Singh on family's superstitions
The Indian pacer said that no one in his family had watched him bowl during the T20 World Cup. Arshdeep expressed his amazement on learning that, despite their presence at the stadium, his family had never seen him bowl.
Speaking to Indian Express, the left-arm pacer said:
"They keep their eyes shut when I bowl. I don’t know why. Who does these things when they are sitting in the stadium? My parents always say that whenever I bowl, they close their eyes. I have told them what is the point of coming all this way."
"How would you get that feeling, what is going on in the match? I respect their superstitions. For them, closing their eyes while I am bowling is their contribution. It gives them happiness," he continued.
Arshdeep also shared that captain Rohit Sharma asked him to focus on the basics when he bowled the penultimate over against South Africa in the final.
