"For two days I didn't know where my bat was"- David Warner on how his school friends hid his favorite bat
Like any budding batter, David Warner was attached to his bat and claimed that it was almost like his 'baby'. However, he had some trouble with it once as some of his school friends took it away from him and hid it.
It made Warner restless as the bat meant everything to him. He opened up on how he got crawled through a tunnel and got the bat back after knowing where it was hidden.
On the shown 'Breakfast with Champions', here's what David Warner had to say about that particular incident:
"One group of guys that I used to go to school with knew that it (bat) was basically like my baby. They took it from me and hid it. I lost it and my parents were angry. For two days I didn't know where my bat was. One of the guys told me they hid it in the tunnel. We used to have a canal and there was a 1 km-long tunnel. If it rained, I knew I was gone. But I crawled through the tunnel and grabbed it (bat) and crawled all the way back. The next day I showed them, 'See, I got it.'"
David Warner on Virender Sehwag's philosophy
It's well known that former Indian opener Virender Sehwag was one of the first few people who believed that David Warner could become an all-format beast. The southpaw opened up on the valuable advice he had received from Sehwag when the two were a part of the Delhi Daredevils.
On this, Warner stated:
"I always tell youngsters that the higher level of cricket you play, the easier it becomes because you play on better wickets and you know where the bowler is going to bowl. Like Viru (Sehwag), his philosophy was that at time, you had just two fielders in front of you- the point, mid-off, and mid-on. He said that the others are behind the wicket so just hit the ball (laughs)."
Just as Sehwag predicted, David Warner has consistently been a match-winner for Australia be it in white-ball cricket or red-ball cricket.
