"From helicopter shots to unforgettable victories, you have scripted cricketing history like no other"- Special wishes pour in as MS Dhoni turns 43
Cricket fraternity members and fans sent warm wishes to former Indian captain MS Dhoni as he turned 43 today (July 7). He was last seen on the field in May, playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2024. The yellow franchise's campaign concluded in the league stage after a tough loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) before the playoffs.
Dhoni handed over the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of IPL 2024 quietly and batted mostly for only a few balls across the season. However, the veteran was effective in the finishing role, scoring 161 runs across 14 games at an impressive strike rate of 220. It will be interesting to see whether Dhoni returns to action next season, as he has not announced his retirement yet.
Wishes poured in on X today on the occasion of MS Dhoni's 43rd birthday. His former India and IPL teammate Suresh Raina led the way with an X post. Soon, other cricket fraternity members and fans also joined in sending the wishes.
Here are some of them:
"Happy Birthday, Mahi bhai! Wishing you a day as cool as your helicopter shot and as epic as your stumping skills. Have a fantastic one, brotherman," Suresh Raina wrote.
"Happy birthday Mahi bhai, have a great day @msdhoni," Cheteshwar Pujara wrote.
"Happiest birthday Mahi!! Sending lots of love!! Have a fantastic day and year! ms dhoni," Robin Uthappa wrote.
"You are literally the sunshine of my childhood. I've laughed cried cheered my lungs out for you. You are more than just a cricketer thanks for being an amazing idol and an inspiration. Have a great day captain cool may it be as awesome as you are @msdhoni ♡," a fan wrote.
"Still my favourite mode of dismissal Happy birthday, Mahi bhai. Stay blessed," Yuzvendra Chahal wrote.
"Happy birthday to the man who won it all, and then some. Wish you a year full of happiness ms dhoni," Wasim Jaffer wrote.
Rohit Sharma recently became the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to win ICC T20 World Cup
MS Dhoni-led Indian team scripted history back in 2007 by winning the inaugural T20 World Cup organized in South Africa. It was a young team at that time that did not feature stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sourav Ganguly.
The Men in Blue had to wait for more than 16 years to get their hands again on the Trophy. Rohit Sharma and Co. won the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and the USA to make India two-time champions in the shortest format.
