“From rivals to teammates” - Former Indian cricketer Unmukt Chand shares a picture with Mohammad Nawaz
US cricketer Unmukt Chand shared a picture with Pakistani player Mohammad Nawaz via his Instagram story on Thursday, August 15. Both players featured for the Toronto Nationals in the recently concluded Global T20 Canada 2024.
Unmukt Chand retired from Indian cricket in 2021 and moved to the USA to pursue more opportunities. However, the right-handed batter was not selected for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Nawaz last played for Pakistan in a T20I game against New Zealand earlier this year.
Chand led India to glory in the Under-19 World Cup in 2012. He scored 246 runs in six games, including a match-winning 111-run unbeaten knock in the final against Australia to help the Men in Blue win the tournament. Mohammad Nawaz also featured in the tournament for Pakistan, who crashed out to India in the quarter-finals.
The duo have been reunited at the Global T20 Canada 2024 with the Toronto Nationals. Chand took to his Instagram story, sharing a picture with Nawaz, he wrote:
"From 2012 U19 batch rivals to 2024 Gt20 teammates. Been a good ride, my friend."
Nawaz has represented Pakistan in six Tests, 37 ODIs, and 60 T20Is. Meanwhile, Chand scored 3,379 runs in 67 first-class matches representing Delhi, including eight centuries.
Toronto Nationals defeated Montreal Tigers to win GT20 Canada 2024
The summit clash of GT20 Canada 2024 pitted the Toronto Nationals against the Montreal Tigers on August 11. Toronto Nationals captain Colin Munro won the toss and chose to field first. Jason Behrendorff was brilliant for Toronto, as he took three wickets in his first three overs.
Corbin Bosch (35) was his side's highest scorer, as the Montreal Tigers finished at 96/9 in their 20 overs. Behrendorff took three wickets in total, while Romario Shepherd bagged two.
In response, Toronto lost openers Colin Munro (0) and Unmukt Chand (4) early. Andries Gous played a brilliant knock of 58 off 49 balls to take the Nationals over the line. Colin Munro’s side won the game by eight wickets with five overs remaining to lift the GT20 Canada 2024 trophy.
