Full list of San Francisco Unicorns players for Major League Cricket 2024 ft. Pat Cummins and Jake Fraser-McGurk
The second season of Major League Cricket 2024 commenced on July 5 and will run until July 23. There will be 25 matches played across two venues: Grand Prairie Stadium and Church Street Park.
The San Francisco Unicorns squad for the 2024 season looks promising with significant changes and strong additions. Last year, under the leadership of Aaron Finch, the Unicorns had a disappointing run, finishing fifth on the points table. They managed to win only two of their five games and couldn't qualify due to a poor net run rate.
On that note, let’s dive into the details of this year's San Francisco Unicorns squad. Corey Anderson has been appointed as the captain, and Shane Watson will be the head coach.
The Unicorns have retained key overseas players like Finn Allen from New Zealand and Haris Rauf from Pakistan, ensuring they have experienced international players.
Additionally, they have retained several domestic players, including Liam Plunkett, Carmi le Roux, Brody Couch, and Sanjay Krishnamurthi. Anderson, with a bid of $75,000, was the highest among the retained players, followed by Plunkett at $65,000.
The Unicorns made strategic picks, starting with Hassan Khan in the first round. They continued to strengthen their squad by picking Tajinder Singh in the ninth round and adding Karima Gore and Jahmar Hamilton during the 10th round. These players bring a mix of domestic experience and youthful energy to the team.
San Francisco has also bolstered their squad with some quality Australian players. They acquired 2023 ODI World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins, all-rounder Matthew Short, powerful batter Jake Fraser-McGurk, and wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis.
Further enhancing their squad, the Unicorns have signed Kiwi pacer Matt Henry, explosive West Indian batsman Sherfane Rutherford, and Pakistan's talented leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed.
With these international stars and local talents, the San Francisco Unicorns are aiming for a much better performance this season and are hopeful of making it to the playoffs and beyond.
Los Angeles Knight Riders will square off against the Unicorns in the fourth match of the Major League Cricket 2024 on Sunday, July 7.
