GT vs CSK, Qualifier 1: Who won yesterday's match in IPL 2023?

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 15 runs in yesterday’s 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) Qualifier 1 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With the win, CSK not only registered their maiden win over GT in the IPL but also booked a place in the tournament’s final for the 10th time.

Chasing a challenging target of 173, Gujarat never quite got going as Deepak Chahar (2/29), Ravindra Jadeja (2/18) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/28) kept the opposition on the back foot. In the end, GT were bowled out for 157.

Gujarat needed a solid start but Wriddhiman Saha fell for 12, pulling Chahar to deep backward square leg. Skipper Hardik Pandya’s (8) poor run continued as he cut Theekshana to point. Dasun Shanaka (17) was the next to go, caught while attempting a reverse-sweep off Jadeja. The left-arm spinner also cleaned up David Miller (4) with a skidder.

Shubman Gill (42 off 38) once again batted with defiance. But with the run rate rising, he too perished while attempting a big stroke. The in-form opener mistimed a pull off Chahar. At 88/5, CSK were firmly on top.

Gaikwad hits fluent 60 as CSK put up 172/7

CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad top-scored with 60 off 44 as his team put up a competitive 172/7 after being put into bat. For GT, pacers Mohammad Shami and Mohit Sharma again shone, claiming two wickets each.

Gaikwad and Devon Conway (40 off 34) added 87 for the opening wicket, with the former being the dominant partner. Gaikwad enjoyed some early luck as he was caught off a Darshan Nalkande no-ball in the second over. The batter launched the free-hit for a maximum and also struck the ball after that for four.

Gaikwad brought up an impressive fifty, smacking Mohit for a four behind point. His knock ended when he top-edged a pull off the GT pacer to long-on. The bowling side fought back strongly after breaking the opening stand. Noor Ahmad knocked over Shivam Dube (1). Ajinkya Rahane (17) chipped a catch off Nalkande to backward point after smashing the pacer for a maximum.

Conway, who struggled to time the ball, was the next to go as he miscued one from Shami to midwicket. Ambati Rayudu scored a quick-fire 17 off 9 but he too perished, top-edging a slog-sweep off Rashid.
