In the World Cup match, Virat Kohli eclipsed Sachin Tendulkar for the most centuries in ODIs. The right-handed batter brought up his 51st ton in a match-winning cause against New Zealand in the semifinals. He scored 117 runs off 113 balls, a knock laced with two sixes and nine boundaries.

“It is truly incredible” – When David Beckham spoke about Virat Kohli surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record

David Beckham was delighted to witness Virat Kohli's scripting history in the 2023 ODI World Cup match against New Zealand.

He told Star Sports (via Hindustan Times) last year:

“It's just a real pleasure to actually be in this stadium and witness a piece of history. You know obviously, I've spent some time today with Sachin and I know what he achieved in this stadium and I know what he achieved for his country and the sport, but then to see Virat do it today. It is truly incredible. You can see the atmosphere at the stadium.”
"I've come to India for the first time, at the right time. I've been here for Diwali, I've been here for New Year and now I'm here for my first game in the World Cup and it's very special,” he added.

Beckham, UNICEF’s goodwill ambassador, was in India to advocate for child rights and gender equality, the theme for 2023 Children’s Day.

David Beckham represented England in three FIFA World Cups in 1998, 2002, and 2006. The 49-year-old has played for leading football clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and LA Galaxy.

He is the president and co-owner of Inter Miami CF and co-owner of Salford City.
