Have Team India qualified for Super 8 round of T20 World Cup 2024 after their win over USA?
Team India have made it three wins in three matches in the T20 World Cup 2024. They defeated the USA by seven wickets at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday, June 12, to take home two points.
With the win, the Men in Blue now have six points in their kitty from three games and boast an NRR of +1.137. With the victory, Rohit Sharma and Co. have become the first team from Group A to qualify for the Super 8 stage.
A win in their final group game against Canada, scheduled to be played on Saturday, June 15, will confirm their place at the top of the standings.
India had to toil hard for their win against the USA. The bowlers once again performed exceedingly well to restrict the co-hosts to 110/8 in 20 overs. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh stole the show with figures of 4/9 from his quota of four overs.
In response, the Men in Blue were reduced to 10/2 inside the first three overs. Indian-born left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar wreaked havoc with the new ball to cheaply dismiss both openers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav stitched together a useful partnership before the latter joined hands with Shivam Dube to steer the Men in Blue home. Suryakumar starred in the run chase with an unbeaten 50 off 49 deliveries, including two boundaries and as many sixes.
"Will take a lot of confidence from these wins" - Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on qualifying for Super 8
While the pitch at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium presented its fair share of challenges, the Indian players stuck together well to deliver the results. Skipper Rohit Sharma was relieved to book a Super 8 berth with one group game still to go.
Speaking at the end of the game, Rohit said:
"It is a big relief, playing cricket here wasn't easy. We had to stick through till the end in all 3 games. Will take a lot of confidence from these wins."
