"He has the ability to become the best all-rounder in world cricket" - Aakash Chopra lauds Cameron Green's knock in Mumbai Indians' win vs SRH

Aakash Chopra has lauded Cameron Green for playing a match-winning knock in the Mumbai Indians' (MI) must-win IPL 2023 clash against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

SRH set MI a 201-run target after being asked to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, May 21. Green then smashed an unbeaten 100 off 47 balls to help his team chase down the target with eight wickets and two overs to spare.

While reviewing the game in a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra predicted a bright future for Green, saying:

"When it came to the run chase, Ishan Kishan got out, but Cameron Green joined Rohit Sharma. If he remains fit, physically and mentally, and everything goes well, he is your next superstar. He has the ability to become the best all-rounder in world cricket and this player is with Mumbai. He is Mumbai's hope going forward."

The former Indian opener pointed out that the Mumbai Indians were not utilizing the Australian all-rounder effectively before Sunday's game, explaining:

"They (MI) surprised us a little because they were not getting Cameron Green to bat until now. They used to send him so low in the batting order. I was almost about to record a video that Cameron Green is an underutilized resource because he is such a good player - 17.5 crores."

Green was made to bat at No. 3 at the start of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. However, he was assigned the finisher's role alongside Tim David in their last few games, a move which yielded mixed results.

Aakash Chopra praised Cameron Green for making the most of the opportunity to bat up the order, stating:

"The guy opens and you were sending him at five, six or seven. What is the point? You don't give him much bowling as well, give him one or two overs, but he came at No. 3 this time. Then when he starts hitting, he is a beast. He is an amazing player."

While also appreciating Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav for playing crucial knocks for MI, the reputed commentator concluded by highlighting that Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill continued the run-scoring spree later in the day, observing:

"Rohit also scored runs and when he got out, Suryakumar Yadav came. The match was one-sided. They won the match and qualified ahead. Phenomenal day of top-quality batting, first Virat Kohli and then Shubman Gill."

The Mumbai Indians' win kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs. The Royal Challengers Bangalore's loss to the Gujarat Titans later in the day booked MI's berth in the Eliminator, where they will face the Lucknow Super Giants in Chennai on Wednesday, May 24.
