"He is an absolute superstar” - Former KKR player’s massive praise for Shah Rukh Khan
Popular Indian actor and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan recently earned big praise for former cricketer Bret Lee. The Australian speedster was part of the KKR squad from 2011 to 2013.
Lee lauded Shah Rukh for being down to earth despite being one of the highest-paid actors in the world. Hailing the 59-year-old as an 'absolute superstar,' here's what he said in a video shared on his YouTube channel (from 4:51):
"He is just an absolutely lovely guy, a gentleman. The guy that I got a chance to spend three years with, under his guidance, at Kolkata Knight Riders. The highest-paid actor in the world, the most popular actor in the world, and for all that he's achieved, he's so down to earth. He is an absolute superstar."
Bree Lee was with KKR in 2012 when they clinched their maiden IPL title. He bagged seven wickets across 10 outings at an economy rate of 7.86 in the season.
"Kolkata was his eventual pick" - Lalit Modi reveals Shah Rukh Khan initially didn't want to buy KKR
Shah Rukh Khan is known to be one of the most passionate IPL team owners and has often been seen cheering on his team from the stands. However, the Bollywood superstar was interested in buying another team ahead of the inaugural season in 2008.
Lalit Modi, the first chairman and league commissioner of IPL, recently disclosed that Shah Rukh was keen to purchase the Mumbai-based franchise but had to settle for Kolkata after Reliance Industries Ltd. acquired the Mumbai team.
Speaking on Raj Shamani's YouTube channel, Modi said:
"His (Shah Rukh Khan's) first choice was Mumbai, but Mukesh Ambani took that. Kolkata was his eventual pick. But Shah Rukh’s real contribution was in making cricket entertaining."
KKR enjoyed an imperious run in IPL 2024. The side beat SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final, completing a third successful campaign in the league.
