"He has contributed to me getting 1 or 2 wickets" - Avesh Khan on Shubman Gill as captain after 3rd IND vs ZIM T20I
Avesh Khan has said that Shubman Gill is a bowlers' captain as he gives them the requisite freedom and comes up with his own plans whenever required. The right-arm seamer credited the Indian skipper for helping him get a couple of wickets in the ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Gill top-scored with a 49-ball 66 as India set Zimbabwe a 183-run target in the third T20I in Harare on Wednesday, July 10. Avesh then registered figures of 2/39 in four overs as the visitors restricted Sikandar Raza and company to 159/6 to register a 23-run win and take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
During a post-match interview with Sony Sports, Avesh Khan was asked about his views on Shubman Gill as a captain.
"Shubman Gill is a bowlers' captain. He gives a lot of freedom to the bowlers. He gives them a chance to set their own fields. He always backs you if you are executing your plans," he responded.
"If things go slightly awry and you get hit, he brings his own plan and tells you what needs to be done. That always helps a lot. He has contributed to me getting one or two wickets," Avesh added.
Avesh was also asked about his thoughts on bowling in different phases of the game.
"Whenever I talk to the captain, I tell him that I have no preferences about when to bowl, that he can make me bowl anytime and I am always ready. I always bowl with the attitude to pick up wickets for the team," he replied.
Avesh has picked up six wickets at an economy rate of 7.54 in the first three T20Is. His best effort of 3/15 came in the Men in Blue's 100-run win in the second game.
"You would have seen in the IPL and international cricket that he always takes such catches" - Avesh Khan on Ravi Bishnoi's catch off his bowling
In the same interview, Avesh Khan was further asked about Ravi Bishnoi's catch off his bowling.
"It was an excellent catch. He always fields well. You would have seen in the IPL and international cricket that he always takes such catches. He always works a lot on his fielding," he replied.
"He is extremely hard-working when it comes to fielding. He bats and bowls in any case but he wants to take extraordinary catches as a fielder and he showed that by doing it," the Madhya Pradesh seamer added.
Bishnoi timed his jump to perfection to grab the catch with both hands at point when Brian Bennett cut the ball hard. It gave Avesh his second wicket of the game after having already dismissed Wessly Madhevere off his first ball.
