"He's learnt the art of converting 50s into 100s from Virat Kohli" - Legendary Indian cricketer on Yashasvi Jaiswal ahead of PBKS vs RR
Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag feels Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has understood the art of converting a fifty into a big score from star batter Virat Kohli.
Jaiswal is currently third on the list of leading run-scorers in the tournament with 575 runs from 13 games and already has a hundred and a 98* to his name. Sehwag shed light on how Jaiswal didn't throw his wicket away after scoring the fastest IPL fifty and ensured he stayed till the end to see his team home.
Speaking to Star Sports, here's what Virender Sehwag had to say about Yashasvi Jaiswal's performances for Rajasthan Royals:
"Yashasvi Jaiswal is a future star. He's learnt the art of converting 50s into 100s from Virat Kohli. Several batters throw their wickets after scoring 13-ball 50 but Yashasvi looks to build on. He's got that temperament to play big knocks."
Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh spoke about yet another star from Rajasthan in leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who is now also the highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL. He said:
"Chahal's speciality is that he bowls like an original spinner. He has a different art. He is the master of variation. He's different from the rest of the spinners because he makes good use of the crease and is also a master of slow bowling.
"It becomes more difficult to play him in the last five overs because he bowls very wide. Chahal is a brave bowler, a champion bowler."
Mohammad Kaif defends Sam Curran ahead of PBKS vs RR
Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Sam Curran has faced a bit of scrutiny from fans as they feel he hasn't been as consistent as needed despite a whopping INR 18.5 crore price tag.
However, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif feels price tag had nothing to do with the all-rounder's performances. He also feels the PBKS management made a massive mistake by benching star bowler Kagiso Rabada in most games.
On this, he stated:
"Judging a player's performance on his price tag isn't right. Sam Curran emerged as the costliest buy because of his performances in international cricket. But the problem with Punjab is that they are keeping a tested and proven bowler like Kagiso Rabada was made to sit in the dugout for the most part of the tournament."
Rajasthan and Punjab will lock horns for their final IPL 2023 league-stage game at Dharamshala on Friday, with both teams having an outside chance of making it to the playoffs.
