"He showed he's got a different game as well" - Rohit Sharma on Suryakumar Yadav after his composed knock in IND vs USA T20 WC 2024 match

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma heaped praise on Suryakumar Yadav for curbing his natural instinct and displaying a different side of his game in the T20 World Cup 2024 match against USA. Rohit reckons that adapting to different situations and reinventing one's gameplay is a hallmark of an experienced player.

Chasing a paltry 111 for victory, the Men in Blue found themselves three down for 39 runs in the eighth over of the innings. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube bided their time, with the former bringing up a patient half-century. With a seven-wicket win, India progressed to the Super 8 stage.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit said that the unbroken partnership was quite decisive for his team:

"He showed he's got a different game as well, that is what you expect from experienced players. To come out and bat differently if the situation demands, that is what Surya did. The partnership [67-run stand] with [Shivam] Dube was very important for us. In the end, to take us home was a great effort."

Suryakumar Yadav got a reprieve in the 13th over of the innings as Saurabh Netravalkar dropped a catch in the third man region. The game could have gone either way if the right-handed batter was back in the hut.

Rohit went on to express relief at winning all three matches of the New York leg, given how difficult it was to counter the bowling-friendly conditions at the venue. He added:

"We knew bowlers had to take the lead. We knew run-scoring is difficult on this pitch. Again, all our bowlers did the job, particularly Arshdeep, the way he started off was magnificent. Playing cricket here wasn't easy. It could've been anyone's game. All three games we played, we had to stick in till the end and take the game as deep as possible. Lucky for us, we managed to pull through in all three games and [we] take a lot of confidence for a victory like this."

Team India will travel to Florida for their final group game against Canada on June 15.
