"Heartbroken but let's get a new back" - Australia all-rounder Cameron Green heads to Christchurch to undergo surgery

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green took to social media and claimed to be heading to Christchurch, New Zealand, for his back surgery. The seam-bowling all-rounder said he is heartbroken at missing out on playing in the summer but is determined to return strongly.

The towering all-rounder sustained the injury during the ODI series against England and will miss the entire home summer, including the blockbuster five-Test series against India. The 25-year-old will likely be out of action for the next six months and might be ruled out of IPL 2025 as well.

Taking to Instagram, Green wrote:

"En route to Christchurch, thanks for all the kind messages this past week. Heartbroken but let's get a new back."

Cameron Green started his career as a middle-order batter but moved to No. 4 in the series against the West Indies last summer. Having scored a match-winning 174 in the Wellington Test against New Zealand earlier this year, he had cemented his spot at No. 4.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, fellow all-rounder Mitchell Marsh said Cameron Green was gutted to miss out on playing due to his injury. Marsh added that Australia will welcome the youngster with open arms when he is ready.

Marsh said, as quoted by Perth Now:

"He just loves cricket, he loves playing cricket for Australia. What I know about Cam is he will be back and we will welcome him back with open arms. Someone like Cam with his attitude towards the game, he loves it, the thought of missing that much cricket is probably a little daunting for him, but he’s accepted it now and as an athlete you go through these things."

Australia's summer begins on November 4 when they face Pakistan in a three-game ODI series. The Test series against India gets underway on November 22 in Perth.
