"Heinrich Klaasen is same as Babar Azam when it comes to chasing"- Top 10 funny memes after India's win vs South Africa in 1st T20I 2024
Team India beat South Africa comfortably by 61 runs in the first T20I on Friday, November 8, at Kingsmead, Durban. Courtesy of the dominant victory, the visiting side took an early lead of 1-0 in the four-match series.
After being asked to bat first, India notched up a massive total of 202/8 in 20 overs. Wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson stole the show with a scintillating 47-ball century, his second in as many innings in T20Is. Suryakumar Yadav (21) and Tilak Varma (33) played supporting roles to Samson in the batting department for India. Gerald Coetzee scalped three wickets for the Proteas side with the ball.
In response, South African captain Aiden Markram hit two fours and departed in the very first over against Arshdeep Singh. Ryan Rickelton played a cameo of 22 (11) and helped the hosts score briskly in the powerplay. Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed him in the sixth over and put brakes on the scoring rate.
The spin duo of Varun and Ravi Bishnoi bowled magnificently in the middle phase of the contest and picked up three wickets apiece to derail South Africa's chase. The home team eventually got all out for 141 in 17.5 overs and lost the match convincingly.
Indian fans enjoyed the opening T20I between the two teams on Friday night. They expressed their reactions by sharing hilarious memes on X and Instagram.

"Once you have someone like Sanju playing like that, it's hard to stop"- South Africa captain Aiden Markram after loss vs India in 1st T20I 2024
At the post-match presentation, South Africa skipper Aiden Markram reflected on the loss, saying:
"Not so much about the toss, both new balls did little bit with the extra-bounce, but consistent throughout. Once the newish ball worn off, it was great time to bat on. From our point of view, we could've got off to a good start, but we lost momentum, we will try to sort it out. Look, Sanju played a good knock, might have to work on our plans, once you have someone like Sanju playing like that, it's hard to stop."
He added:
"Just really good plans, we had a couple of meetings for the guys who were bowling the death, proud about them, they stuck to their plans. Hopefully we can take that positive into the next game. From individual point of view, they need to know where they are, that is important. Collective effort is key, approach it better."
The two teams will square off in the second T20I on Sunday (November 10) at St George's Park in Gqeberha.
