"History from the brothers" - Kane Williamson lauds his teammates after IND vs NZ 2024 Test series whitewash
Veteran New Zealand batter Kane Williamson praised his teammates for completing a historic 3-0 Test series sweep away against India. The batter, who wasn't part of the touring Kiwi side, took to Instagram to write a congratulatory message for Tom Latham's men.
The touring New Zealand side went where none of their predecessors had gone, registering a Test series triumph on Indian soil by winning the Bengaluru and Pune Tests. They eventually went one step ahead by consigning the hosts to a historic whitewash by winning the Mumbai Test as well.
Taking to Instagram, Williamson, who missed all three Tests due to a groin injury, wrote:
"History from the brothers! Incredible few weeks."
In the process, New Zealand also became the first side to condemn India to a home series whitewash in a Test series with three or more games.
"Very confident he'll be right for that first Test versus England" - Gary Stead on Kane Williamson
Meanwhile, Black Caps head coach Gary Stead underlined the reason behind not playing Williamson in India. He said they counted in the travel factor which might have delayed his recovery.
Stead said ahead of the third Test against India, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo:
"Yeah, very confident. I mean at a push we could have got him over here [in India] immediately, but considering I guess the travel factor and making sure that you can actually recover properly when you get here, we didn't feel though that was worth the risk. So we're happy with having him ready and very, very confident he'll be right for that first Test versus England."
With the 3-0 series win over India, New Zealand have jumped into contention for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. The Kiwis had notably won the inaugural edition of the tournament.
