"Hopefully, we can go out there and give them a good battering" - Harry Brook ahead of ENG vs USA T20 World Cup Super 8 match
England middle-order batter Harry Brook hopes to give co-hosts USA 'a good bettering' when they face them in the T20 World Cup 2024 match on Sunday, June 23. With the net run rate permutations likely to come into play, the right-hander said they must prioritize winning.
With two successive losses in the Super 8 stage, the USA find themselves on the brink of elimination. England, on the other hand, face a must-win situation after beating West Indies convincingly and going down to South Africa narrowly.
Brook, who hammered a valiant half-century against South Africa, said England are quite comfortable playing in Barbados, given they know the conditions well. As quoted by BBC Sport, he said:
"We’ve got to win and then obviously see how we are on net run-rate but the main thing is to definitely get that win. We’ve played in Barbados quite a lot the past six months so we know the conditions, we know the wind and the pitch as well, so hopefully, we can go out there and give them a good battering."
England must beat the USA at least by 10 runs or at least an over to spare to have a chance of reaching the semi-finals of the tournament.
"Just a few highlights here and there of their bowlers" - Harry Brook
The Yorkshire batter further weighed in on their lack of know-how about USA players and elaborated:
"I haven’t actually seen them play, just a few highlights here and there of their bowlers. But we’ll do that [on Saturday], do our analysis and have a proper look to make sure that we’re ready for the game."
England, led by Jos Buttler, looked down and out in the group stage after losing to Australia. However, they defeated Namibia and Oman, while Australia beat Scotland to ensure England's qualification into the Super 8 stage.
